Overview & Highlights

Nestled in the heart of Calne on William Street, Ed’s Fish Bar is a standout destination for anyone craving authentic British fish and chips with a delightful twist. As a takeaway specializing in classic fish and chips, Ed’s has cultivated a loyal following thanks to its commitment to freshly cooked, generous portions and a mouthwatering menu that goes beyond the standard fare.

The allure of Ed’s Fish Bar lies in its perfectly crispy, golden batter that encases tender, flaky haddock and cod bites—each order cooked fresh to ensure every bite bursts with warmth and flavour. Their iconic Haddock (£5.60) is a must-try, alongside the classic Cone of Chips (£1.90) or the rich, indulgent Cheese & Chips (£4.00). Beyond the traditional, Ed’s offers an enticing array of sides like the lightly spiced Curry Sauce (£1.90), crispy Onion Rings (£3.00), and even adventurous options such as the sweet Mars Bar in Batter (£1.30), which adds a unique, nostalgic touch to an already diverse menu.

For those who prefer a heartier option, the selection of Jacket Potatoes—topped with everything from Chicken Curry (£5.00) to Tuna Mayo (£4.60)—provides comforting warmth and satisfying flavours that resonate with every visit. Each meal is prepared with care, emphasizing freshness and generous serving sizes that keep locals and newcomers alike coming back for more.

What truly sets Ed’s Fish Bar apart is the warm and friendly atmosphere the staff create, even during the busiest times. Customers repeatedly praise the friendly service and the genuine enthusiasm of the team, making each takeaway experience as enjoyable as the food itself. Reviewers like Lisa Bamford have noted the exceptional quality, “the batter was crispy,” while Linda Hutchinson appreciated the attentiveness and freshness, highlighting that Ed’s “food [is] lovely both in look and taste,” and promising future visits.

Ed’s is more than just a takeaway; it’s a culinary gem in Calne, blending tradition with a welcoming spirit. Whether you’re craving dependable comfort food after a long day or looking to indulge in a crispy, flavour-packed meal, Ed’s Fish Bar promises a satisfying experience that stays hot and delicious, just as Reuben Johnson described, even on the drive home.

For anyone in the area seeking a genuine taste of British seaside tradition without the seaside, Ed’s Fish Bar is an essential stop. With affordable pricing, a broad menu that suits all appetites, and a reputation for quality, it’s clear that Ed’s is a cherished local favourite—and a must-try for visitors.

Great fish and chips around, the guys were very busy when I arrived but the wait was so worth it. The fish was cooked to perfection and the batter was crispy. Friendly staff. If you want great food at great prices then Eds is the place to go!

We are new to the area and tried Ed's for the first time last night. We were a little dubious due to some of the previous reviews. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The fish was cooked fresh to order. The portion sizes were great and the food lovely both in look and taste. We will definitely visit again. Good job guys. Thank you.

Freshly cooked, nice hot & tasty food. Recommended.

Eds Fish Bar is an absolute jem of a chippy tucked away in the outskirts of Calne. The food is amazing and the staff are always really happy to see you. All food is cooked to order and even though I have to drive 10 minutes home the food is still hot and delicious. Highly recommended.
